Pufnstuf” and “Land of the Lost.” Krofft, one half of the groundbreaking producing team, passed away at 86 due to kidney failure at his Los Angeles home. The Krofft brothers’ 50-year collaboration, marked by psychedelic sets and playful costumes, brought to life beloved shows such as “The Bugaloos,” “Lidsville,” and “Sigmund & the Sea Monsters.” Social media flooded with memories of Saturday mornings filled with their imaginative productions.
Marty Krofft, born in Montréal, transitioned from a used car salesman to a puppeteer in 1958. The legendary “H.R. Pufnstuf” remains a cult favorite, named No. 27 on TV Guide’s list of top cult shows in 2007. The Kroffts also ventured into amusement parks, creating the World of Sid & Marty Krofft in 1976.
Beyond children’s programming, the duo produced adult hits like the “Donny & Marie Show” and “The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.” Their influence on puppetry and pop culture is undeniable, as acknowledged by Muppet History.
Marty Krofft’s legacy extends to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a lifetime achievement award at the 45th Annual Daytime Emmy Creative Arts Awards in 2018. He leaves behind a family, including his brother Sid, daughters Kristina, Kendra, and Deanna, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
